Monk was always hilarious, touching and endearing. Whether it was his obsessive compulsiveness or his sadness about his murdered wife this show made you feel for this character! Not to mention all the supporting characters were great members of the show. This is a rare show that got better the last few seasons! The show finale was the best I've ever witnessed! Monk is missed til this day!

Absolutely MARVELOUS! The concept of this show allows the viewers to have a fabulous show that actually "thinks outside of the box"! There is NEVER a dull moment on this show, all the characters and actors are OUTSTANDINGLY amazing. Tony Shaloub brings life, compassion and understanding to the world of people with "issues". Monk is a rare find on TV and am pleased to share my Friday nights watching such an intelligent and funny show. This is not a typical neurotic or compulsive behavior, he takes it the next level but is able to show the person is actually a human also. Randy - is by far one of the FUNNIEST characters next to Monk on this show. I personally would like to see "Rocker Randy" again. The Captain is not as "Gruff" as he appears, he has heart also. This show is HIGHLY underrated and deserves to be recognized for its creativity, humor and good old fashion fun!!!!

This show was great. The murders are sometimes quirky but that's the way I like it....keeps it family friendly. Characters are very loveable.
The ending to the series was just perfect and I was sad it was over.
Monk deserves a 10 and that's just the way he'd like it...his favorite number.

A lot of TV Shows have become popular with the main character having disability. Look at the old-fashioned Ironside, wheelchair-bound. The new Psych, with Shaun Spencer a fraudulent Psychic . Just two examples of this genre. A third is the extremely popular Monk. A Police Officer, who had a nervous breakdown after his wives murder, is also a sufferer of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), which helps him solve his cases, as he obsess over every element and goes over every crime scene excessively. He notices unimportant details because of it and uses that to solve his case. The show does have an element of believability in that it would be more believable that someone obsessed about everything would solve difficult crimes, not an average joe. Humour is also a main point, as it's very tongue-in-cheek, and it's the character interactions between Monk and his "co-workers" that make you interested. A very good show, and worth watching.

I saw most of one episode, but that was enough. With the praise it has gotten, I thought the show would be funny or otherwise brilliant. It was neither.
The gimmick I mention is of course the fact that the hero has obsessive compulsive disorder, and evidently we're supposed to find it funny when he makes unexpected and/or random comments or complaints and everyone around him has to take it in stride. Yet this condition of his is supposed to give him the ability to sense things that other detectives miss.
But though the episode I saw had a few laughs, it was otherwise dreary. The old Mr. Magoo cartoon derived its laughs from the title character's inability to see clearly and get into scrapes as a result; the same concept is applied here, but Monk's crazy behavior failed to raise any chuckles. Also, he may see details other people might miss, but that is something any ordinary law enforcement officer can do. The show works neither as a comedy or as a police procedural.

Tony Shaloub deserved his Emmy award for playing the title character, Adrian Monk, in the series. Bitty Schram was perfect as Sharona Fleming, his nurse and sidekick. The late great Stanley Kamel was perfect as his understanding psychiatrist. Ted Levine was great as Stottlemyer for the San Francisco police department. Despite being set in San Francisco, California, they filmed the series in Canada. The first season had only twelve episodes where each and every one is perfectly done with great acting and writing. You have guest stars like WIllie Nelson, Garry Marshall, Tim Daly, Brooke Adams, Kevin Nealson, Adam Arkin, and others as well. The murder crime scenes aren't so gruesome but Monk always gets his man or woman in the end. The final episode in the first season included Tony's real life wife Brooke Adams; his former co-star Tim Daly from Wings; and Garry Marshall. The series is a bit quirky at times but entertaining if you're not annoyed by Monk's obsessive compulsive behavior.

Just started the final season and getting down about there being no more new eps. This show is amazing! Don't know why/how I slept on it for so long. Not only is Shalhoub phenomenal but the rest of the cast shines hard, the Captain -Ted Levine never expected a performamce throughout all seasons like he put through! Made for this role ! Each and every one , even poor Dorfman. I love Sherlock Holmes and this show is the perfect lite version- very excited to finish out series!

You have to be able to put aside that it is a few years old, if your able to do this, i'm sure you will find many hours of good fun and relaxing entertainment here.
It's nok a Sherlock Holmes thing, but somewhat along those lines anyway. Do to his condition, Monk has a funny way to see things, things that we normally don't pay attention to. And lots of funny situations do to he's "sickness".
In short, it's good old entertainment, for the times where you don't need something to be to heavy.
