does anyone know if naomi is in any other scenes after the birth of her Indian baby with her Indian husband. Do we see this child grow up or is that it for Kerri Russell's character. Does her Indian village get destroyed like the rest of the villages? I have the DVD but think i have missed any more scenes with her family in it. On the DVD boxed set there is also a picture with her holding a toddler's hand who is Indian which makes me think that she is in the movie more or it could be in deleted scenes. Her character is very interesting and I would have liked to known what happened to their family and how this new life affected her and if any of her family ever heard from her again.If anyone knows the answers to these questions please answer them for me!!! Thanks!!!

Into The West mini series was great. I not only enjoyed the show it's self but the fact it was a mini series, not a continuing series that gets old. I thought that the portrayal of the Indian's as only victims was not completely accurate. The whites have done many injustices that DO need to be faced. However, just as in all races, some tribes and some individual Indians were brutal, savage and treated whites and other Indian's wrong, too. However, overall it was far more entertaining that all of the cop and medial shows on TV today. I was more comfortable allowing children to watch it because sex and violence was handled in a realistic but not "in your face" for the heck of it. Thanks for this program and keep more coming on the old west.

I have really enjoyed watching this mini-series. It certainly reflects much of what happened to my family of Metis (half-breeds) in Canada. It is often difficult to watch, but at the same time gripping because the truth is finally being laid bare for white people and Native North Americans. In the end the intertwining of all of those in North America is shown and the result is bittersweet. This is also a great educational tool and I hope that it is allowed to be used in the school system. High school students could definitely handle this, but it may not be for the younger students who are more sensitive. Spielberg did a great job with this series and the acting is generally superb. I'm just sorry that I had to wait until the end of September to see it on Canadian television when Americans could watch it during the summer. I can't wait to buy this on DVD when it becomes available in Canada.

Having seen Dances With Wolves several times over I see various similarities in the TV miniseries in relation to narration, characters, music, panoramas, etc. The story is OK and interesting enough but the acting and realistic feel is far better in Costner's movie especially the acting and the realistic nature of the native American characters. Also, "Into the west" wants you to believe the native American religion's spiritism while "Dances" allows you to observe their culture and practices in an unbiased way. Perhaps some of my views are premature since the series isn't over yet but I feel that its being associated with Steven Spielberg is worth viewing the rest of it.

Into The West is a beautifully crafted movie about conflict that is very respectful of both views. I have always admired the Native American culture from childhood and find that we have to learn about all the cultures not just our own to live in harmony. Native American cultures teaches to live in harmony with the animals, land and all the creatures of the world we live in. I especially appreciate the native American actors that come from different native cultures and learn the new languages and customs... The culture of white America is taken into account in the telling of this story. We get a historical pictogram of the land and how difficult it was to cross. I think, perhaps, that people think that you bought a wagon like you would buy a car and just drive it from East to West. People forget that there were no paved roads and disease was rampant and no one knew how to control diseases. It is good to see movies that are not lopsided in their perspective

Loved this series and will purchase it when available. Each week I was emotionally struck by the graphicness of the pain inflicted by one person or group upon another. Good representation of the struggles, hardships, and losses endured by pioneers and Indians alike. However, a bit of historical poetic license was taken, which saddened me. I was especially taken aback by the placement of AB Guthrie, Jr. on the wagon train, when he wasn't born until 1901. I listened and re-listened to be sure I heard the name of my favorite author correctly, and checked out his biographical details online. Too bad. Jed Smith's actual journeys didn't really coincide either, but, what the heck, it is enjoyable viewing and I will do it again.

Because I don't understand the Lacota language, subtitles would sure be nice.
